Drugs and alcohol use and abuse by teens is very common and it’s have serious consequences. 50% of deaths of 15-24 year age range from suicides, homicides; accidents involve alcohol or drug abuse. Drugs and alcohol also lead to sexual and physical aggression such as rape or assault. Possible stages of teenage experience with alcohol and drugs include experimentation, abstinence (non-use), dependency, regular use (both recreational and compensatory for other problems), and abuse. Regular and repeated recreational use can cause to other problems like depression and anxiety. Many teenagers regularly use drugs and alcohol to compensate for lack of positive social skills, depression, or anxiety. It is the gateway for other drugs like cocaine, marijuana, hallucinogens, heroin, and inhalants.
Those families who have alcohol or drug abuse history, their child take drugs more than others. Warning signs of teenage drug or alcohol abuse may include:
  • a change in groups of friends,
  • a drop in school performance,
  • deterioration in family relationships, and
·         Delinquent behavior.
There may also be physical signs such as a persistent cough, red eyes, and change in eating and sleeping habits. Drug or alcohol dependency may include withdrawal symptoms, blackouts, and further problems in functioning at workplace, school, or home.
